Argus Managed Defence provides cybersecurity to organisations worldwide

Argus Managed Defence protects organisations against cyberthreats. “Last year we analysed 7 trillion security events and detected over 38 000 threats. Our customers trust us to keep their data safe so they can focus on their core business,” says Pål Magnus, International Sales Manager at mnemonic.

Cybercrime has become a national security threat, according to the EU. Cyberattacks nearly doubled in 2020, compromising the security of critical infrastructure such as healthcare and power grids. Companies, meanwhile, suffer financially when they are held hostage by ransomware.

“Most organisations need assistance in one way or another when it comes to cybersecurity. Many lack trained personnel due to the global shortage of security experts, or just the time and resources to be able to handle something this complex by themselves,” explains Magnus.

Machine learning and global threat intelligence

Argus Managed Defence is a complete Managed Detection & Response (MDR) service. The solution provides companies with 24/7 protection against threats such as targeted attacks, persistent threats and zero days. When a threat is detected, Argus’ security analysts assess the threat and, if confirmed, alert the company and take immediate action to contain it.

“Our proprietary MDR platform gives us a competitive edge as it is made to fit each customer’s infrastructure. It allows us to offer a flexible, end-to-end solution that can adapt to the technology the customer already has. We decided to develop our own platform 20 years ago when it was almost unheard of. Even today only a handful of cybersecurity companies have their own platforms,” says Magnus.

Using machine learning, global threat intelligence and big data analytics, Argus provides advanced correlation across six key areas: networks, email, log data, endpoints, vulnerability and asset data, and cloud services.

Filters out the noise

“We detect cyberthreats that would otherwise go unnoticed. At the same time, we filter out the noise. This means we don’t waste our customers’ time chasing false positives,” says Magnus.

He elaborates: “In a 24-hour cycle in a company of 2 000 employees, Argus will collect 130 million raw events. Of these, 9 920 of these will be flagged as security events and analysed by our technology. In turn, 13.5 of these will be manually assessed by our security operation centre, and 0.25 confirmed security incidents will be reported to the customer.”

More threats, bigger market

By 2025, 50 per cent of organisations worldwide are expected to use MDR services, and the industry is projected to reach USD 2.15 billion in revenue by 2025.

mnemonic, the company behind Argus Managed Defence, has been riding this wave of market growth for over 20 years, and is also a trusted source of threat intelligence to Europol and other law enforcement agencies worldwide.

“mnemonic launched its MDR platform in 2002 when cybersecurity was in its infancy. Now we are among the leading IT security service providers in Europe,” says Magnus. “We have always had a very high customer retention rate. Our ability to customise is one reason for this,” he points out.

“Our unique company culture is the secret to our success. We have a long-term view, low employee turnover and an extensive service portfolio. This allows us to provide stable, high-quality services over time,” he concludes.
