Commercial buildings have a large potential for saving energy. Building managers and owners, however, lack the data and insights needed to optimise energy usage in their buildings.

With more than a third of all energy consumption worldwide coming from buildings and construction, the issue is not only one of cutting costs but also of substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Smart sensors

Disruptive Technologies has created a set of wireless sensors for monitoring a building’s energy performance. The sensors are the world’s smallest wireless sensors, with a size of only 19 x 19 x 2 mm.

The sensors and corresponding software are easy to set up in any building, without a need for additional equipment or continual maintenance. Once installed, the system provides immediate information about temperature, activity and other aspects of the building. With an unmatched battery lifetime of 15 years, the cost of ownership is at an absolute minimum.

The sensors are lightweight and unobtrusive and will not interfere with any of the normal functions in a building. The system is useful for residential, public and commercial buildings alike, including hotels, offices, airports, train stations, concert halls and sports venues.

Concrete benefits

Using the Disruptive Technologies solution, owners and managers of commercial real estate can cut their energy expenses significantly. At the same time, the greenhouse gas emissions from the buildings can be reduced, making their operations more sustainable.

The system also improves tenant comfort and health, and creates a better working environment for everyone using the buildings.

Market potential

The market for smart buildings and energy efficiency solutions is growing globally. By 2021, the market for the Internet of Things is expected to reach USD 520 Billion.

Disruptive Technologies was founded in 2013. The company’s current solution is certified for Europe, and solutions for the US and Asia-Pacific will follow soon.
