WasteIQ is a digital platform for waste management companies. It makes collection and sharing of data simple across different technologies in a complex value chain.
A sustainable circular economy requires efficient and unified data management, especially where different technologies interact. For waste management, this means connecting a range of stakeholders, including city authorities, public waste management companies and private contractors.
Today, waste management is instead handled in a complex and inefficient manner, with special integrations and custom solutions adding a costly burden.
WasteIQ connects waste infrastructure from different actors and consolidates all data into one open platform, accessible for everyone – the public sector, companies and households.
All data integrations are certified and shared across the users of the Waste IQ system. The platform keeps track of all waste equipment and every user connected to the network. This allows information about – for instance – smart containers, digital weights and operational software to be easily shared.
By combining behavioural data and container level sensor, the system can even improve predictions of waste levels in containers and vacuum pipes.
WasteIQ comes with an access management system, where users get access to specific public infrastructure through radio-frequency identification (RFID). This eliminates the manual handling time and costly special solutions which dominate the industry. The platform is designed according to best practice for data security, and it is GDPR compliant.
The system also supports dynamic payment and cost sharing models. This can help the industry to adopt a wider range of digital services and business models, including “pay-as-you-throw”.
WasteIQ liberates data from lock-in solutions and single purpose systems. The open architecture and collaborative business model reduce technical complexity and create a fundament for innovation on a system level.
WasteIQ helps waste management companies to grow smarter over time. Digitalising the waste industry and making better use of data improves logistical efficacy and reduces manual labour.
There is pressure to increase recycling rates and regulate waste management worldwide. In 2016, the global market for smart waste solutions was estimated at USD 285 billion. It is expected to reach USD 435 billion by 2023.
The Waste IQ platform is currently a pilot project and will be throughout 2019. Waste IQ is a startup created by BIR, Norway’s second largest waste management company.
