The Explorer is getting a new look. During a short transition period, you may find pages with both old and new design.
The EpiShuttle is a reusable isolation unit for transport of highly infectious or vulnerable patients. It protects both patients and healthcare professionals, while making it possible to provide medical treatment.
Transporting patients with infectious diseases is challenging, especially when constant medical care and treatment is needed. Without adequate isolation, the risk of transmitting viruses from patients to medical personnel is high.
The transport, moreover, commonly involves single-use patient isolation units that must be incinerated and disposed of after being used only once. This leads to high levels of waste.
EpiGuard has created the EpiShuttle, a transport system for patients that require both isolation and constant treatment.
The unit can be disinfected and prepared for reuse in under two hours. Vehicles that transport the EpiShuttle, meanwhile, can be immediately reused without any disinfection.
The design of the EpiShuttle allows for numerous treatment options during patient loading and transport, including full intensive care and emergency procedures, such as intubation and insertion of central venous catheters.
The EpiShuttle is designed for transport on land, sea and air. It is also suitable for transport internally in hospitals, or as temporary isolation unit, on suspicion of highly infectious disease.
The EpiShuttle can be used for protecting medical personnel from infectious patients. However, it may also be used in positive pressure for protecting vulnerable patients – such as burn victims and cancer patients – from their surroundings.
The isolation unit, moreover, protects patients from any hazardous environmental agents through the use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) filters.
The EpiShuttle is CE-marked as a Class 1 medical device.
The EpiShuttle can be safely used almost everywhere. It is designed for secure transportation, multiple uses, easy communication, and optimal patient comfort. It is also compatible with most mechanical ventilator circuits.
The EpiShuttle, moreover, reduces both costs and waste levels since it can be safely reused after a relatively quick disinfection.
The number of outbreaks of highly infectious diseases, such as Ebola, SARS, MERS, Lassa fever occur rapidly and are impossible to predict. Between 1976 and 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 24 outbreaks of Ebola. Preparedness is thus essential for keeping people safe. The EpiShuttle is ideal for inclusion in hospital preparedness plans. The EpiShuttle may also be used for other infectious diseases for instance as measles, tuberculosis and MRSA.
Epiguard was founded in 2015 by a group of doctors at the Oslo University Hospital, together with co-founders Inven2, Eker Group, and Hansen Protection. The company has top-level expertise in product development and manufacturing, with medical backgrounds ranging from intensive care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, anaesthesiology, and transport medicine.
