Making waste manageable

Vågen separates liquids from solids, thereby reducing waste volume and cutting emissions from waste transport.

At a glance

  • Dewatering waste to reduce volume
  • Cuts transport emissions by up to 90%
  • Low power consumption and long lifespan

Heavy-duty vehicles are responsible for a quarter of carbon emissions from road transport in the EU and for 6 per cent of total EU emissions.

About 98 per cent of road transport relies on diesel, and despite improvements in fuel economy in recent years, road emissions are still rising. This is mainly due to increased freight traffic.

Reducing climate impact from road transport requires both emission-free vehicles and reduced traffic.

Waste management solution

Vågen has created screw presses for dewatering sludge and wastewater, leaving the waste drier, lighter and more manageable.

Vågen’s solutions work with any type of wet substance, including sewage, industrial and agricultural waste, and waste from fish and meat production. The liquid held in such waste generally has no value; it only serves to make the waste more difficult and more costly to handle.

Vågen strainer screw conveyor

Vågen’s machines have low power consumption and are simple and reliable, giving them a long expected lifespan. The equipment can easily be integrated into exciting production and waste processes.

The machinery has a capacity of between 1 000 and 100 000 litres per hour, and its liquid-solid ratios can be adjusted depending on flow.

Concrete benefits

Vågen has reduced waste transport needs for some of its customers by over 90 per cent. A normal transport reduction is often between 70 and 90 per cent, depending on the substance.

The reduced transport means lower fuel consumption for companies, cutting both operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Market potential

Vågen’s screw press is useful in any industry that is transporting waste or other wet substances where the liquid has no value.

Reducing transport emissions is central to achieving any country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement. The market for dewatering waste is thus global.

Vågen has delivered waste handling services since the 1990s and is top rated by international business rating agency Dun & Bradstreet.
