Making commercial buildings sustainable and efficient

Smart Plants’ solutions use the Internet of Things (IoT) to cut energy consumption in industrial and commercial buildings by up to 40 per cent.

At a glance

  • Energy optimisation solution for commercial buildings
  • Fast and simple integration with existing systems
  • User-friendly interface for monitoring, analysis and control of HVAC systems

Industrial and commercial buildings account for over one third of global energy use and carbon emissions. Reducing this level of consumption and emissions requires an increase in the energy efficiency of existing buildings.

IoT solutions can significantly improve energy efficiency in buildings, but are only being used in a small fraction of commercial buildings worldwide.

Making commercial buildings smarter

Smart Plants is a full-stack IoT company, providing hardware, software, integration and management solutions for increased productivity and energy efficiency. Smart Plants’ ClevAir building management system uses information technology to make commercial buildings more cost-effective and sustainable.

ClevAir utilises wireless data collection, secure cloud solutions and machine learning to self-adjust heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. These adjustments are based both on third-party data such as weather conditions and on internal data such as indoor air quality and room occupancy. Each step of the process is logged, and can be monitored and modified using an intuitive live dashboard.

Concrete benefits

ClevAir can quickly assess an existing construction for potential energy savings by identifying key areas of inefficiency. For example, lighting, fans and automatic motors may be running even when they are not needed. Or an unidentified fault in an HVAC system could result in unnecessary costs.

ClevAir further boosts energy efficiency and improves air quality in buildings through 24/7 monitoring, remote management of indoor climate settings, instant alerts for interruptions in HVAC system operation and predictive maintenance. All of which can help to reduce a building’s carbon footprint.

Market potential

The European market currently has over 2.5 million commercial buildings. Rising energy prices demand higher efficiency, as utility costs directly affect a building’s practical and resale value. Emerging IoT technology significantly lowers the previously high costs of implementing an efficiency optimisation solution.
