Rooftop solar panels are a desirable option for generating renewable energy. However, safety considerations during installation contribute significantly to the capital cost. In order to protect workers from injury, it has been necessary to transport and build scaffolding before starting any rooftop installation.

A time-saving solution for rooftop safety

Roofbarrier by Safedesign is a lightweight, easy-to-install and versatile safety system made from sturdy netting and an aluminium frame. The system is installed directly onto a sloping roof edge to prevent workers and objects from falling.

According to the Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster, installation expenses and accident prevention contribute significantly to the set-up costs of solar power systems. By reducing these costs, Roofbarrier can help to make the solar industry more competitive.

Concrete benefits

Compared with traditional scaffolding, Roofbarrier reduces the preparation time for rooftop construction by up to 90 per cent, and total installation costs by up to 40 per cent.

Roofbarrier by Safedesign enables solar installation companies to offer their services at a lower cost, making solar power more attractive to end-users. The solution is also suitable for other roofing tasks.

Market potential

The worldwide market for rooftop solar photovoltaic installation is expected to grow from USD 9.2 billion in 2019 to USD 14.1 billion in 2024. Roofbarrier helps to meet the demand for cost-effective implementation of these installations.

Safedesign was established in Norway in October 2018 and is a member of the Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster. Large-scale production and active sales of Roofbarrier will begin in the second quarter of 2019. Safedesign’s initial target market is Scandinavia, with Europe as its secondary market.
